A magnificent edifice and historical local structure, THE YELLOW BRICK BUILDING, home to all  Milford High School students  from 1908 through 1951, originally housed grades 1-8 as well as 9-12.  Initially, teens  attended classes in four rooms on the third floor.  An assembly room was used for their study periods.  There were 12 students (10 female and 2 male) who comprised the first  graduating class (1909).  Classrooms on the first and second floors were occupied by younger children.  Gradually several elementary schools were built throughout town to accommodate students in grades K-6 with the exception of a Central Grammar School which had the capacity to serve K-8 pupils.    THE YELLOW BRICK BUILDING  eventually was dedicated to house only Milford High School.  Ever increasing enrollment ultimately  necessitate larger quarters for the ever increasing number of high school aged students taking advantage of higher educational opportunities.  First the Great Depression of the 1930's and second WWII of the 1940's prevented such much need expansion.  Cramped MHS was forced to go on double sessions until a new building could be built.  The Fall 1951 opening of a new Milford High quickly emptied MHS's former home ... but not for long.

Used as a place for Board of Education storage and as an enlarged Children's Public Library, the building continued to serve youth of Milford.  It was  called upon to provide  classroom space as MHS ANNEX when the NEW MILFORD HIGH SCHOOL became overcrowded.   As THE DIANE TOULSON BUILDING,  it housed elementary school aged children while a modern Central Grammar School was under construction.

On June 6, 1988, the Board of Aldermaen appointd a five member Toulson Building Oversight Committee chaired by local attorney and MHS Class of 1968 graduate Chris Carveth.  Other members were Art Stowe, Ray Oliver, Wes Burgess and Chiris Carroll.  They were charged to reseach feasability of building use vrs demolition.   In October 1988 the committee submitted its recommendation that "the building be rnovate4d for use as senior housing" funded by HUD (a federal Housing & Urban Development) grant, with the assistance of Community Developmentm Inc., a not-for-profit organization specializing in such restorations. After much discussion a 7 to 5 vote of the Board of Aldermen approved renovation.  The five original members of the Oversight Committee were then appointed to develop a formal plan of restoration and obtain  A HUD financing package.   Groundbreaking for River Park Apartments was held in 1989.  In 1993 (after a 4.1 million dollar renovation and conversion into a 39 apartment independent residence for the elderly and disabled, RIVER PARK APARTMENTS, INC was oficially opened to the public.

The  revitalized  "Old Yellow Brick Building"  continues to be a formidable edifice.   As River Park Apartments it is celebrating it's 20 anniversary in 2013 with a new roof, new windows, new air conditioners, new overhead fans, and a new  heating plant.  The GRAND OLDE LADY OF DOWNTOWN MILFORD STILL LIVES AND SERVES !

Many adults attending MHS ALL CLASS REUNIONS remember studying in its classrooms.  Therefore it is fitting that they be given an opportunity to revisit those hallowed (albeit changed) halls.  We are appreciative of River Park Apartments'  Board of Directors, administrative staff,  and the building's current inhabitants' willingness to offer OPEN HOUSE AND TOUR OPPORTUNITIES  during MHS  ALL CLASS REUNION celebrations.

By George Kelly
Directed by Nicholas Martin
June 11 – 29

An unconventional story of a conventional American family.

Aubrey Piper is a blowhard, a first rate annoyance, and a shameless liar—a show-off of the worst kind. He also happens to be marrying into the Fisher family. Whatever will they do? Join the Fishers as they learn to cope with this human oddity who has blustered his way into their lives. In this classic and unexpected comedy, George Kelly explores the unique combination of reserved skepticism and swaggering confidence that make up two sides of the American character.
